Views on Otago New Zealand?

I am a Nigerian coming to study tourism in New Zealand. How is racism in Dunedin? (I am a very dark but handsome guy:) And is it advisable to come with my family (Wife and 2 daughters?) Would really like your comments. I would also like to know the cost of living and accommodation.
